martinW. Gary Martin is a professor of mathematics education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the College of Education. He joined Auburn University in August 2000. Before coming to Auburn, Dr. Martin served as the Chief Education Officer and the Director of Research for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. In addition, he has been a faculty member at the University of Hawaii in the Curriculum Reseach and Development Group and at Northern Illinois University in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Dr. Martin has published extensively. As project director and writer, he was instrumental in the publication of Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He also enjoys research on geometric knowledge and problem-based instruction.
