| Dr. Barbara H. Ash Associate Professor of Secondary English Language Arts and Reading Education
Barbara H. Ash is an associate professor of English and Reading Education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the College of Education. She currently serves as the coordinator for internship in Secondary English Language Arts Education. She has been at Auburn since September 1990. Prior to this, she taught in a drop-out prevention program in Bainbridge, Georgia, and at the laboratory school connected with the College of Education at The Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL. Her doctorate is in English Education from Florida State. Dr. Ash currently teaches three courses focusing on the "language" component of secondary English education and one course concerning reading in the content areas of the secondary school. Dr. Ash enjoys conducting action research with teachers in the public schools. She has been a participant-observer researcher in two middle school classrooms; in the first, the teacher was implementing writing workshop, and in the second, the teacher was implementing response-centered teaching of literature. Dr. Ash's main area of research interest is transactional, or response-centered, teaching. Academic Degrees
