Knowledge Bases
The foundation of the programs within the Department of Curriculum and Teaching comprises essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions established in current research findings and sound professional practices necessary to prepare effective teachers for the 21st century. As evidenced in the departmental purpose and reflective of the College of Education's philosophy, this department emphasizes ethical values as an integral and essential part of education in a democratic society. The programs within this department are grounded in the College of Education's conceptual framework and aligned with the standards set forth by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC), the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), the Teacher Certification Chapter and Teacher Education Chapter of the Administrative Code for the State of Alabama., and the standards of respective learned societies and professional organizations (i.e., International Reading Association, National Council for Teachers of Mathematics, National Council for the Social Studies, National Science Teachers Association, the International Society Technology Education, the National Association of Business Teacher Educators.
