School Psychology (CSP) - Ph.D. Degree
Program Description
The Ph.D. program in School Psychology consists of approximately 48 credit hours of full or part time study beyond the Ed.S. degree. Graduates are employed in a variety of settings including public and private schools, hospitals, health care facilities, colleges, universities, and even private practice. A few graduates work in private practice and in other health care agencies. Students complete several practica and a formal, 1800 clock hour internship in settings related to their career goals. The program will consider applicants with undergraduate degrees in education, psychology, child development, and related fields.
Coursework will prepare you for the academic component for certification as a school psychologist. Because certification requirements differ from state to state, and also change periodically, applicants are advised to check certification requirements for the state(s) in which they expect to seek employment prior to applying to the program. Graduates of the program are also eligible to apply for National Certification in School Psychology (NCSP). Graduates may also be eligible to apply for licensure as a psychologist in some states. As is the case for certification, licensure eligibility and requirements differ from state to state, and are subject to periodic changes. All program objectives, curricula, research requirements, and field-based experiences are designed to be in alignment with the standards and guidelines provided by both the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Psychological Association.
