Facts and Figures
History: Established in 1915, the College of Education celebrated its 90th anniversary during the 2005-2006 academic year. It is the sixth-oldest among the university's 12 schools and colleges.
Accreditation: The college is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the country's most rigorous accrediting agency for schools of education. Many of our academic and professional programs hold accreditation or certification, or are distinguished, within their respective academic disciplines.
Distance Education: The College of Education continues to be a leader in distance education. The Department of Rehabilitation and Special Education had the first online program, not only at Auburn University, but within the field of rehabilitation in the nation. Today, the college offers six distance education programs leading to eight graduate degrees.
Study Abroad: During the past five years, nearly 30 candidates participated in overseas internships through the Consortium of Overseas Student Teaching (COST) or a special arrangement with the Department of Defense Schools in Europe.
Conceptual Framework: The college' Conceptual Framework outlines its tactics in molding our students into competent, committed and reflective professionals.
Student Enrollment: In fall 2007, the college enrolled 2,407 students: 1,6487 undergraduate and 759 graduate students. The college traditionally hosts the largest graduate enrollment and fifth-largest undergraduate enrollment among Auburn University's 12 colleges and schools.
Most Popular Degree Programs: In fall 2007, more undergraduates studied elementary education than other single degree program, followed by exercise science. Rehabilitation services was the college's most popular graduate program, followed by higher education administration.
Scholarships: The 2007-08 academic year scholarships mark the first time the college has presented more than 100 scholarships in an academic year by awarding 118 undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships/assistantships totaling more than $210,000.
Faculty: The college employs more than 120 faculty membersnearly 100 percent hold terminal degrees in their respective fields, and more than three-fourths are tenured.
Research and Outreach: The college's externally funded research and outreach activities totaled more than $5 million in 2006-07. More than half of the college's faculty is involved in externally funded efforts.
Technological Resources: The Learning Resources Center, a resource and technology center, boasts an average of 40,000 student contacts each year. It offers one-on-one computing services for students, as well as mobile classroom and distance education technologies for faculty.
Donor Support: Contributions and pledges from faculty, staff, alumni, and friends through Auburn University's "It Begins at Auburn" $500-million comprehensive campaign, which concluded in March 2008, exceeded $14 millionsurpassing the college's original $5.75 million campaign goal set at the campaign's start in 2001. Giving by college employees exceeds 80 percent of faculty and staff as a result of the university's annual Faculty Staff Campaign.
Alumni: College of Education alumni now number more than 30,000 graduates who reside in all 50 states and 35 countries. The college's National Advisory Council, composed of college alumni and friends, provide guidance to the college's dean and staff.
